After another long New England winter, it seems the weather is starting to finally turn… which means wedding season is officially here.
I approach my wedding shoots a little differently from an official wedding videography company. I usually shoot solo with a couple cameras, 2 for ceremony and 1 for the reception, making my presence unobtrusive. Instead of going for the multi-camera, glossy smooth corporate look, I prefer handheld and intimate as if the camera is the point-of-view of one of the guests. I feel this indie-boutique style also better reflects the personal and emotional moments of the day.
Another way I separate myself from the typical wedding videography service is through editing. I keep my edits simple and affecting, paying most attention to the sequence and pacing and let it unfold like a short film. Added to this, I choose appropriate music based on the preferences of my clients, and also making sure they add to the overall feel both stylistically and lyrically.
Clients would get customized DVDs to include the entire ceremony & reception with actual audio broken into chapters, as well as a 7-10 minute highlight reel put to music. I also send them the hard file of the highlight reel so they may post and distribute it as they wish.
